My name is Cecilia Gialdini. I am a sociologist/social scientist and my work mostly focuses on integration and normalization of diversities. Originally from Italy, I have been living in Northern Ireland for the past six years. Pronouns I use: lei, ləi (IT) she/they (EN), ella/ elle (ES).
I am a researcher in linguistic justice and minority rights – traditional minorities and indigenous people, and new minorities such as migrants and refugees. I am currently working at Queen’s University Belfast as a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow on a project titled “Can language heal society? Language rights in peacebuilding and decolonisation”, looking at the intersections of linguistic justice and transitional justice by investigating institutional and grassroots initiatives featuring languages promoting justice and reconciliation in Northern Ireland, Colombia, and Norway.
I was the 2023 Marjorie Boulton Fellow and I held a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship for my PhD in Linguistic Justice at Ulster University. Since 2023 I’m an associated researcher at CED, an institute focusing on interlinguistics and linguistic justice.
I am a vegetarian and an environmentalist. I am also the proud parent of Mordecai, the diva in the picture below.
